A Brand is nothing but the feeling that you get after experiencing a product or service. If your experience is good, you will use the brand more which means it’s a good brand for you. If your experience is bad, then the brand is bad.

Branding / Brand is an art but more science. To build a good brand you need to understand the market, the consumer psychology, competition, etc and then create a Positioning for the brand. The Positioning will tell you whether your brand is luxury, mass market brand, niche or blue ocean; and accordingly you would build the price points, channel of distribution and marketing communication platform.

I started Smart iDeAS 8 years back when I got fed up with corporate life and the many frustrating experiences of not being able to do what I wanted to do. 2008 was the year of global meltdown and thinking back now I was either very stupid or very brave to start a company in the middle of 2008!

However, I was lucky to meet a couple of likeminded founding members and a gang of strong supporters – friends, family, ex colleagues, ex clients - who helped in making Smart iDeAS what it is today. I remember, right after I floated Smart iDeAS I picked up my phone and called the Managing Director of the company where I started my career in December 1995 as asked for business! He not only became one of our first Market Research services clients, but also referred us to his clients immediately. And our journey began.

Pure Ice, one of the finest brands from Bangalore and Praveen who runs this company, became our first Brand Consulting client in 2009. We worked together in building the Pure Ice B2C brand and now Praveen and his beautiful wife Ashika are great friends.

Mr. Koshy Varghese, Managing Director of VDB, was kind enough to hire us as his social media marketing partner when he decided to go digital in 2010. We learnt the ropes of this immensely dynamic solution together.

I remember my first Personal Branding client Subir Ghosh, the ex-editor of DNA, Bangalore, making and serving me his trademark ginger tea when I visited him at his home for the one-on-one program, sometimes in 2013. We continue to share cups of tea and discuss new business ideas every now and then.

Smart iDeAS and I, have been extremely fortunate to not only have clients who have become lifelong friends, but who have also turned out to be a strong reference group for our continuously developing services. I thank them whole heartedly.
